If there’s been a breakthrough, it is too late. That’s the point. The test doesn’t hurt. It is one more tool in the bag, instead of flying blind. To say they are unreliable is not reasonable. Breakthrough infections can happen as the vaccines are not 100%. But there is a lot of room to play below that. The fact of the 2nd booster is evidence to that.
Our Docs have not been happy with the antibody testing, unless there's been a breakthrough, they've been unreliable, so we've never bothered.. Have done the swab tests before any gatherings, or the other day my wife was feeling poorly, but all have remained negative... I had flagged this month as the previously noted 2nd booster time frame & will go for it once the dust settles, houseguests all this week...
