Re: “i started planting seeds today. mostly tomato.”
Some of the tomatoes began germinating this a.m. 7 days. That's days longer than the quickest ones last year but these may not be the same varieties. I was becoming concerned. Most came from my 2018 heirloom pack and are getting long in the tooth.

Of the 15 varieties planted, 2 sprouted: Black Krim, and Roma from a tomato bought at a store last December.

One of the 15 has almost no chance: The seeds are from a tomato given to me in 2017. The tomato has been frozen the whole time. I've read that you can't grow seeds from frozen tomatoes, but I proved that wrong in 2019 when I carved a chunk out of this one and DID get its seeds to grow. The trick, I think, is to only freeze tomatoes that are fleshy, not juicy. But will the seeds still grow after 5 years? I really doubt it.

I started planting seeds today. Mostly tomato. I learned last year that planting seeds too early results in spindly, unhealthy seedlings. Five or six weeks should be right.

This year, I'm cutting back a bit, focusing mostly on varieties I haven't yet grown successfully. A total of 15 tomato varieties, with one planter set per variety, six pots per planter set, two seeds per pot. If they all sprout and I thin half, I'll wind up with 90 plants. Varieties follow:

Purple Calabash 2A1
Striped Stuffer 2B1
Chocolate Stripes 2C1
Ace 55 2D1
Homestead 24 2E1
San Marzano 2F1
Marglobe Improved 2G1
Roma (from the Heirlooms) 2H1
Black Krim 2J1
Beefsteak Red 2I1
Honeycomb Hybrid 2K1
Volunteer Red Cherry 2L1
Roma (from a store vegetable) 2M1
Kerry’s Tomato (A slice frozen since Sept 2017) 2N1
Determinate Rutgers 2P1

Also one planter set of marigolds, harvested from a gas station pot last year. As I recall, they looked a bit different from the ones I've been growing, but I don't remember much about them other than that.
