A traditional standard hybrid does not get plugged into an outlet It runs on its own engine plus it has an onboard electric motor that charges the battery in the vehicle..

Now, an EV, (electric vehicle), is different and runs solely on battery power and has to be charged up and plugged in to do so.

I am looking at the first HYBRID vehicle technology which get far superior MPG than standard gasoline only due to the power assist from the direct current battery helping.

Like the original Prius for example....

Re: “I remember once reading an article that showed how much money it would cost to recharge one of these Electric overpriced cars by plugging them into your house electric. The results I read was that it was more money than filling your gas tank up with regular unleaded gas...”
What I remember is that getting an 80% "quick charge" at a professional lot was pricier per mile than a comparable car using gas. The implication is that charging at home would be LESS expensive. I don't know how much less. But it will take the owner 12 hours or so. And if he wants to have his house set up for quick charge, he may need to fork out $200,000 or more.

To this, it needs to be remembered that the car battery likely needs replacement at the 80,000 mile mark. I'm finding replacement batteries from $3,000 to $20,000. The cheapest batteries are for the low-end hybrids. Tesla batteries are $12,000 to $15,000.
