Antonov 225 video
Just watched this video showing the destroyed Antonov AN-225 in Ukraine. It's almost surreal seeing the first shot. In some ways it looks like a movie set - a visually iconic object still clearly identifiable, sitting in ruins. Kind of like the Statue of Liberty in the original Planet of the Apes, or a Death Star wrecked just off shore in one of the latter Star Wars movies.
The original video was shot by someone familiar with the AN-225. The video I'm linking below is from another 737 pilot who has been flying for a Ukrainian airline. He shows the original video while translating and summarizing the original into English.
I don't see how the plane could be rebuilt given the level of damage. It would be better to build another from scratch. I could see the original being left in place as a memorial of the war. It would make for a very moving display and reminder of the wanton destruction that is war.
The first half of the video is some general shots from various places, including a bit of a walk around the Antonov airport where the 225 lies. The 225 itself starts at about 19 minutes into the video.
