The parent should have said "Now that the court says what they did was wrong, we will try to defeat them in the next election." But, from the article, the offenders have paid NO price. And if they are defeated in the next election, that depends on who shows up to vote -- which is the only thing it depended on BEFORE the judge made his decision.

BTW, the article made clear the legal attempt to REMOVE the errant school board members HAS BEEN DEFEATED. So, the school board WON that.

But my point is this: what sort of a pathetic justice system do we have when government employees can break the law, or deny citizens of Constitutional rights, and the only consequence for offenders is "NAUGHTY NAUGHTY!" And, on those super rare occasions when some sort of monetary judgment IS deemed appropriate, the government employees still pay nothing: THE TAXPAYERS PAY FOR TAXPAYERS BEING ABUSED.

It would be very easy to fix this (note, I am not saying consequence, but easy): REVOKE ALL IMMUNITY FOR VIOLATING GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES AND AGENCIES WHEN THE COURTS RULE AGAINST THEM -- Make all employees of he department, or the entire state, jointly and severally liable. THEN let those who have been hurt pick and choose who they want to take EVERYTHING from.

It would be fair. People go to work for government because of the perquisitites. We all know that. Make the toll on your group of government teat-suckers potentially off the charts. THAT is how you get the group of govenment teat suckers to police themselves a bit more...or, if we are lucky, decide to get a productive job instead.

Maybe I am being a bit over the top in my recommendation, but that is what I was trying to get across in my earlier commentary: THE GOVERNMENT -- WHICH IS A GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE ENTITLED -- NEVER PAYS FOR ANYTHING. How many FELONS at the FBI, Justice Dept, CIA, President's office are in jail so far due to all the felonies they committed quite openly in the last administration? ZERO.

They "public serpents" really do and really ought to laugh at all the rest of us: WE SERVE THEM. They never serve us. And when they commit crimes we would be bankrupted or jailed for they walk free every time..

So...how are the members of the school board going to be forced to PAY ***MONEY*** for the parents and families who have been denied their commonsense rights. Are the school board members going to be PERSONALY forced to pay a penny for court costs???????

Why not????????? What sort of self-evident stupid system is this??

Re: “From the article: 'School boards across Virginia are now on notice – you can’t ignore parents without paying the price.'”
That was quote was from a parent, not by the journalist assessing the court decision. I take the parent's words to mean that the school board WILL pay a price for what it's done... recalls and future lawsuits are underway and they've been given further validity by the court ruling. The courts have just ruled against the school board making them more vulnerable.

As for the May 16th trial of Jon Tigges for refusing to leave the board meeting (unlawful trespass), I'll be astonished if the charge isn't now dropped. After all, it's just been ruled that the public had a right to be there.

I'm looking forward to the recall results. Isn't it amazing, though, that this has gone on for so long? It's WAY too hard to get rid of our rogue elected officials.
