...the hybrid vehicles already have a gas motor and an electric motor. If ya are inclined to go electric a hybrid might be the best way to go. A lawnmower motor bolted to your roof might screw up your aerodynamics.

...I read an article someplace that said if 15% of the cars in the country are total electric it will collapse the grid. Right now the electric co's want to put a gizmo on your ac so they can shut it off during times of peak demand. Coincidentally that would be in the part of the day when ac was actually needed. Not trying to be inhospitable but I don't want to sit around in a house that's a hundred degrees so some yuppie can charge up the battery on his beamer.

Sire

agreed. But I was only illustrating what an alternator does in a gasoline engine, which is provide electric current back into the battery so it stays charged.. This way ya don;t get that uh-oh moment when ya try to start yer vehicle and nothing happens cuz yer battery is dead..

So I guess I am wondering why could not an alternator that could produce DC volts be incorporated into the vehicle?

It could be self sustaining at that point....

BTW, I loved the fuel economy De showed..
Thumbs Up
