Boss,
I'da swore you said you was an engineer.

It takes energy to turn an alternator (or generator). The amount of energy it takes is the power being drawn from the alternator (or generator) plus the 'losses' due to friction and resistance in the wiring.

An alternator does not give one 'free power' just by turning it around.

True story. Many years ago, (back when it was semi-safe to do this sort of thing) the battery in my pick-up truck was drawn down to nothing. So my brother and I borrowed the battery out of his truck, and used it to start my truck. When I connected my battery back up to my truck (with the engine running) the engine lost a lot of RPM's and the engine was clearly 'working hard' - to pump Amps back into my battery to charge it back up.

Zim.

Sire

agreed. But I was only illustrating what an alternator does in a gasoline engine, which is provide electric current back into the battery so it stays charged.. This way ya don;t get that uh-oh moment when ya try to start yer vehicle and nothing happens cuz yer battery is dead..

So I guess I am wondering why could not an alternator that could produce DC volts be incorporated into the vehicle?

It could be self sustaining at that point....

BTW, I loved the fuel economy De showed..
Thumbs Up
