A would-be killer who knows that this is how things work, could still raid a classroom knowing that the teacher isn't armed and perhaps even knowing where the lockbox is. The teacher and students would be defenseless. I don't think anybody should know where a trained teacher might have his gun. He should assume that the gun might even be on the teacher.

As for armed teachers - I like the concept. What I'd like to see, though, is a 'lock box' installed in every classroom. Those teachers who do not want a gun would have an empty lock box. Teachers trained and prepared would keep their gun in the lock box where only they could actually get at it.
