When wasp spray is used as a self defense spray and deployed into a human’s eyes or inhaled through the nose or mouth, it temporarily blinds the attacker. There are of course other toxic side effects that we mentioned above however, wasp spray requires the attacker to go to the hospital for an antidote.

...works good on dogs too.

Walking the dog...

I was walking the dog Thursday when a HUGE black dog came charging full speed from nowhere, snarling and barking from behind us. He belonged to the people across the street. I yelled "No! Git!" It was only ten feet away, halfway across the street, when it stopped on a dime and trotted back home as if nothing had happened. The owner was in his back yard working and had apparently triggered the dog's shock collar. I'm glad it worked. I heard him saying "Bad dog!" and that was that. I continued the walk but then had to turn around and return via the same route.

As I approached the house about ten minutes after the initial event, I had an eye out for rocks. I didn't see any until I was almost there. Sure enough, this bruiser of a dog, 120 lbs I'd guess, came at us again. I scooped up a softball-sized, jagged rock and waited. If it had reached me, I was preparing to kill it. This time though, the owner triggered the collar and the dog turned back sooner, never reaching the street, no closer than 30 feet. The owner, 100 yards away, definitely saw me and the rock I was wielding. I *hope* that made him do some serious thinking.

I got home and told my wife that I'll bring a revolver with me next time and that I'll kill the thing if it reaches the street again. The owner is clearly too stupid to keep it leashed.

This same dog came after my wife last year under similar circumstances and with similar results. I started going on walks with her after that but never saw the dog. She encouraged me to bring pepper spray instead of a gun. She's already got a can of it. I can see both advantages and disadvantages to pepper spray. I've never used it. What if the cannister has gone flat? She's trained with it and says you can tell when it needs to be retired, but it's a reassurance in which I lack confidence. I mean, if the spray doesn't work and this massive dog gets the upper hand on me or my pup, we will be seriously injured...
