I would say yes.
I know that my Wi-Fi adapter HAS to say Linux compatible else it does not work with Linux. (It plugs in like a thumb drive.)
I found a 'surplus unloved' HP printer that worked quite well with the Linux O.S. It was literally plug it in, and the box detected it and I had a working printer. No fuss no muss.
But no guarantee. If I had an old printer, I'd just try it. If I had to buy a new printer, I'd check the fine print on the box to see if it says 'Linux compatible' or words to that effect.
Also, do make sure to remember to tell Linux to 'eject' the USB stick before pulling it out. (It might not work any more if you don't.)
