A lot of the large corporate businesses have policies against carrying weapons, let alone confronting or even chasing assailants or thieves, by their employees. In the past, I've read articles that recounted employees being terminated simply because they tried to intercept shoplifters. I agree with your sentiment, micro ... deciding solely for myself, I would choose to defend my business establishment ... but, many of these corporations are very squeamish about legal liability associated with any fallout resulting from their employees confronting criminals in or around their stores.
