It doesn't sound quaint to me, at all! There is absolutely NO good reason the legislature couldn't be part time...AND UNPAID. IMO, there ought to be some special honor if you serve - AND DEPART - honorably and quickly.

Zim, I totally agree about all non-Constitutional "Departments" and other functions being disbanded. We haven't a chance of getting any of our rights back, and certainly not our Republic, until that happens....

Unfortunately, I don't expect many "civil servants" to understand. And what do we do with all the "voters" who are effectively welfare charges? They aren't likely to go along with the downsizing of the Departments which arrange their perquisites!

I favor just hanging every scumbag who we know has been corrupt, dealing with that individual immediately at NO taxpayer expense (the scumbucket has already cost each of us enough already), and simpley fore all the rest and start clean with a much smaller central government agency.
