I've got a number of other Yellowstone pics in the same album: mudpots, geysers, [very] hot springs, calcium formations. Not many more with animals.

If you're interested, let me know and I'll post 'em. I remember one place where a tourist had died a few days before. He was on a path that was supposedly safe and the rock he was on gave way. He boiled to death.

A day or two later... the same trip... we were driving in part of the park where there was nothing to see, but several cars had pulled over. We stopped to see what was going on. Fifty yards into the woods, everyone was taking photos of an elk. (I think that's what it was. It was definitely big. REALLY big.) I decided to circle around and and get a little closer . . . I guess I got a little TOO close because it stopped what it was doing and started coming after me, so I hightailed it out of there. After, my gal made me promise not do anything like THAT again, and I didn't.

Later in the trip, we were awakened by a loud snuffling noise outside our tent. I got out and found a gigantic bear moving away from our camp. I circled around to get a little closer. Unfortunately, it was dark and those photos didn't turn out.

BTW, you may also notice some burned wood next to the elk. Our trip was a year or two after a big chunk of the park burned down. I remember that even Old Faithful was in jeopardy.
