During a campaign speech yesterday, New York Republican Rep. and gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin was attacked by a man carrying a sharp object. The attacker was arrested on the spot but was released on his own recognizance after just a couple of hours in custody.
Everybody knows that the headlines about the attack would be far more sensational if a Democrat were attacked by, say, a Trump supporter. Instead we’re seeing a lot of the usual “pouncing” type spin. The New York Times actually has the Republicans doing some “assailing” in the wake of the attack on Zeldin:
Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) ~ "G.O.P. Assails N.Y. Bail Laws."
I guess this is the new pouncing and seizing?
Ooooh ... now we are "assailing" instead of "pouncing," eh? ROTFLMAO!
They’re so dang predictable!
Bill Dumais (@BillDumaisCT) ~ There’s so much wrong with this headline.
Ooooh ... "the incident," eh?
“The incident” was also a special touch from the Times:
Jeremy Redfern (@JeremyRedfernFL) ~ “The incident.”
So, this wasn’t an attack on democracy?
Nah, it's only an "attack on democracy" if Democrats are disagreed with. Physical assaults against Republicans are just forgettable "incidents."
If the attack had been on a Democrat we think the Times would have found a different word than “incident.”
Yep. If a Democrat had been assaulted, the NY Slimes would have invoked The Holocaust.
