Today wasn't spectacular, but it wasn't bad, either. The second sale - at 9:05 a.m. since it had only just opened - pretty much made my day. We bought enough that, after it was over, we commenced to drive the 9 miles back home to unload - partly because the car was quite full but also because the FIRE PIT below made a real racket every time the car hit a bump. It was $25. I wanted it immediately since the pit we currently own is just a bowl with feet. Today's find is a CHAR-BROIL TRENTINO. I liked its porcelain coating (what do you think of that, micro?), size and general look. This afternoon, every place I've checked for this model said it was out of stock. Wal-mart clearanced it at $107, but I don't know when. CHAR-BROIL's replacement model is the TRENTINO DELUXE - and it, too, is out of stock everywhere. Wal-mart clearanced the 'Deluxe for $170. My fire pit might be 15 years old. It doesn't matter. It's clean and in good shape.

Reviews I found for the TRENTINO were universally positive. One fellow said he put a lot of hours on his in an area with snowy winters, and it lasted nine years at which point a nickel-sized hole finally developed on its top. He liked the pit enough that he replaced it with the newer model. So I'm happy about that.

Today's manufacturers typically charge $250 to $350 for what, to me, look like comparable outdoor fireplaces.

I'll make a tile or stone base on the back deck of the new house and keep it there. I have limitless wood...

The photo on the left is the fire pit I bought. The one on the right is a cleaner image I found on the internet. Notice that it's steel, not porcelain. The apparent shape difference in the two pictures is an optical illusion.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

This wasn't a spectacular day, but I did pick up a Spencer Cycloptic Stereo Microscope late in the day for 5 bucks. On the web, I'm finding it for $115.
