I bought a used copy of the book, The Fourth Turning, around 2008. It was published in the 1990s (when everything appeared to be going just fine, and the country was not obviously fractured and half-insane, if you are old enough to remember the 1990s).
I read it, thought it was an interesting theory, and set it aside as THE US WAS OBVIOUSLY NOT EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE TO ANYTHING WORSE THAN A BAD ECONOMIC SPELL. The book gave quite a bit of leeway on when the Fourth Turning, if it was going to happen, would get started, and I figured that by 2008, or so, it should already be underway and, at least, noticeable.
But the 4th turning is a PERIOD which is supposed to last at least 20 years and be filled with horrific WAR. Social institutions were supposedly to become corrupt and untrusted. And it was supposed to get hair-raisingly desperate before it reached its end.
And there is supposed to be a "Grey Champion" who steps in to critically attempt (not necessarily successfully) to safe the day by rallying the people. In previous 4th turnings, that had been, clearly in retrospect: Franklin (and maybe others of age, Revolutionary War); Lincoln (Civil); Roosevelt (Great Depression and WW2). There was no "grey champion" in sight in 2008...except, possibly, Ron Paul...and he hardly seemed up to a "total war" type of fight.
Anyway, I wanted to make sure everyone here is, at least, aware of the Fourth Turning *theory*. I have become much more of a believer in the last couple of years, as -- it seems to me -- everything is lining up with social collapse, total war, grey champion, and other predictions. Indeed, I find the way this crisis has shaped up to be hair-raisingly shocking. I've become a believer.
But, if I am to believe (or even entertain seriously) the *theory*, it is important to recognize that things are almost required to get MUCH worse before a climax is possible. Too many people are still asleep, for one; too many people STILL trust their social institutions.
Just sharing something which has been helpful for me. I suggest you do your own search on the internet for other material. You will find a an awful lot of smart people have been writing about this book, and its timeline, for a long time. And, again, EVERYTHING we are seeing around us is increasingly lining up with the theory: Trump, Covid-19, WEF, China, Jan 6, etc.
