Re: “The woman said it belongs to her adult son - who wasn't there, presumably prepping for his kids' party. She said the motorcycle has been sitting unused in her garage for two years”The motorcycle's owner finally got back to us after we knocked on his mom's house Saturday and told her he wasn't picking up or replying to our texts. It took him nine days to finally text my wife. That's strike one. He says the bike has an oil leak that he never got around to fixing. Strike two. He bought the bike in Vermont where motorcycles of 150cc's or less need no title, so it doesn't have one. YER OUTTTT!!!!!

I guess he expects someone to plunk down $1,300 and wheel the thing away without a title and perhaps not a test drive either. That's not going to happen. I think the bike could very easily be stolen, and there could be other reasons why it's hard to register. I wouldn't know where to begin with fixing an oil leak. A cheap motorcycle probably isn't worth fixing.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

Late in the day, we found a sale where a woman was bringing everything in off her driveway. She had a birthday party to go to - two of her grandchildren, born six days and four years apart. She said we were welcome to come in just the same and look around the garage.

The woman and I got into a conversation. I tend to do a lot of that at garage sales. It always drives my wife nuts. I won't say two words to anyone at a party but at garage sales I can get into conversations about almost anything. In the course of doing that, my wife was looking around and noticed, in a corner where most wouldn't have even looked, this really sharp Honda Rebel 150 motorcycle for $1,300 OBO. The woman said it belongs to her adult son - who wasn't there, presumably prepping for his kids' party. She said the motorcycle has been sitting unused in her garage for two years and she'd just like it gone. I've had my eye out enough for a small DIRT BIKE (which isn't what the Rebel is) to know that $1,300 is a steal. We're now seeing it to have an estimated blue book of $1,950 (with typical miles and in average condition). MSRP on a 2022 model is $5k.

The bike is a 2010 model, it's very clean. There's a ding or two but nothing bad. And, get this, it has just 250 miles on the odometer. Is that accurate or is the odometer broken?

That's about all there is to say except that . . . I think my wife wants this bike more than I do. It's a very small motorcycle, not just in engine size but, also, physically. I could ride it but it's a bit lower to the ground and a tighter fit than I'd like. It's perfect for her, though. We'll call the son tomorrow and ask him if the title is clean. If it is and if the bike starts and runs well, we'll bring it home and I'll post some pics.

It's been about 30 years since I've driven a motorcycle. I hope I remember how.
