We’re going to Tennessee in September to check out the lakes there. I’d like to have a cabin with acreage on a lake. Not sure I can afford that, but we’ll look.

We’re in Palm Beach now getting the boat ready to sell. Listed it with Nordhavn here. I told them how much I wanted for the boat and they told me I was to low and bumped it up $20k. We’re the lowest priced Nordhavn on the market right now. I hope we get our money. But I’m prepared to come down $75K if I need to.

Re: “How did you choose to retire to New Hampshire as opposed to other states? It was a good choice. Free State Project?”
I was raised mostly in California. New Hampshire was as far as I could get without it being cold!

Actually, it was that my parents were born outside of Hartford, so I had cousins in the area. One, a home builder, had settled in New Hampshire.. We visited and loved the place. New Hampshire reminds me of the area around Yosemite, or even a bit of the Tahoe region... and we can't afford either of those. But prices here are much lower. The state has great people. It has small government, low taxes, far more freedom than I'm used to (I've got a burn barrel. We can have a campfire any time we choose. We can open carry. We can add rooms onto the house without a permit.) There's no water shortage. The population is low. And it's pretty. The whole state looks like parkland. In short, New Hampshire checked all the boxes on my "where I want to live" checklist *and* I knew someone who could build a vacation house while I continued working. We moved to Virginia so we'd be in driving distance of the new house and started taking vacations here.

That's how it came about. Unfortunately, New Hampshire is being influenced by the surrounding states. They're all liberal, and the wackos are eventually going to ruin the place.

If we were to do it over, I think we'd pick Tennessee. Good state. Likely to stay that way.
