The chairman of Russia’s Lukoil corporation, Ravil Maganov, died Thursday, according to the company.

Lukoil confirmed Maganov’s death in statement shared on their company website, claiming that he “passed away following a severe illness.” Local news agencies in Russia reported that Maganov died after falling out of a sixth-floor window at Moscow’s Central Clinical Hospital, noting later that he had committed suicide, according to the BBC.

Maganov, 67, was in the hospital after suffering a heart attack and had been taking antidepressants, Bloomberg stated, also citing Russian news sources. He was appointed chairman of the company in 2020 after working for the company since 1993, the BBC noted.

The board of the company had previously called for the conflict between Russia and Ukraine to stop as soon as possible, expressing their sympathy to the victims of the “tragedy,” the BBC continued. Lukoil was the only Russian oil producer to call for a quick end to the war with Ukraine in early March, Bloomberg noted.

Maganov is the latest Russian energy oligarch to die under unusual circumstances over the last several months of 2022, the BBC continued. The former manager of Novatek, Sergei Protosenya, was found dead in a Spanish villa with his wife and daughter in April, the outlet noted.

Gazprombank’s former vice president, Vladislav Avayev, was also discovered dead in his Moscow home with his wife and daughter in April, the BBC continued. Former Lukoil tycoon Alexander Subbotin died of heart failure while seeking treatment from a Shaman, the BBC noted.
