By accident, I just learned something new about Windows. This might be old hat to some of you. But...

If you mark several Windows files - by left clicking on them while the Ctrl key is depressed - you can then rename them simultaneously with a single rename. Windows will give them all the same new name, distinguished only by "(1)", "(2)", "(3)", etc. at the end.

This will save you a lot of time if you ever have to rename a bunch of related files. For instance, if you're pulling fifty photos off of a camera, you can give them the name "Mrs_O'learys_Cow_Oct-08-1871_" and let Windows do most of the work.
