Chile was my favorite Latin American country before they went whole gonzo on (a) vaccine passports and (b) a 'socialist' constitution to replace the constitution that Pinochet, the US installed dictator/murderer, had put in place.
I don't blame the citizens for wanting something less Pinochet tainted, because that was an ugly transition in Chile's history.
However, socialism ALWAYS fails, and IMO ALWAYS turns into another sort of dictatorship/ aristocracy which tends, all in all, within a few decades, to be far worse than the aristocracy it replaces. (Humans are SO dumb Which would YOU prefer, an aristocracy of producers or an aristocracy of non-producers -- with "pull"?
You'd think after all these centuries people would have figured it out: absolute power corrupts absolutely, but at least producers tend to favor stability and a growing economy.
Anyway, this is good news, imo -- really good news. It seems to indicate the vast majority of Chileans have more common sense than the vast majority of Americans.
Chile has already backed off its mandate of no-Jab no welcome. As of Sept 1 all I would need to fly their is a recent Covid test. I wouldn't mind that except (a) it is moronic that “vaccinated” are exempt when they are AT LEAST as likely to be the disease vector (and probably more likely to be). And (b) once I get into the country there would still be restrictions on internal country travel, which vaccinated are not subject to.
With all that said, I am back to considering a closer tie with Chile. If not Chile, then another S. American country.... I need better Spanish and then I need more boots on the ground, to determine quality of the average people. In the US? I like Florida ;-)
