Actually, we are almost to the point (probably within 5-10 years, if we aren't quite there already) where HUMANS on the battlefield no longer make any sense.
Drones, especially with a little AI, are smarter and probably 100,000 faster in making critical decisions than humans are. They can also withstand G forces which would knock a human unconscious and take a hit which would put a human out of commission.
And that is before we even get into size and cost considerations. Super-smart, vastly smaller, AND VASTLY CHEAPER unmanned-tech is on the doorstep.
The only defenses remotely plausible against hypersonic weapons + AI are (1) hide. and (2) *maybe* EMP. The problem is that EMP is not a precision weapon as far as I know: it hits every computer chip in its radiation zone and shielding is incredibly expensive, heavy, and probably unreliable.
So, in the case of your silly sitting duck "battleships" why not deploy 10,000 AI drones and or hypersonic missiles at probably much lower cost and 10,000 times the effectiveness.

PS (which I may regret)
"To the man whose only tool is a hammer, everything looks like a nail" comes to mind as relevant to our "brilliant", "woke" generals and other "leaders".
The smartest decision of all is don't fight f***ing wars, at all, unless you are quite willing to escalate to full nuclear and kill all humans in your country -- and maybe in the world -- in order to "win".
The "generals" who now "work" at the "Pentagon" are apparently so stupid, or so corrupt, they either don't understand how stupid they are...or the are only in it for the money and social power. I really have to wonder how many of them took a bullet. And why we let them serve there if they were too cowardly, or "special" to go to the front lines and risk a bullet.
