“After seven years, my time is up.”
Trevor Noah is leaving Comedy Central’s hallmark program after hosting the comedy news show for 7 years; Noah made the announcement on Thursday.
“It’s been absolutely amazing, it’s something that I never expected and I found myself thinking throughout the time, everything we’ve gone through … and I realized after seven years my time is up,” Noah said to gasps from the audience.
“I’ve loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh even when the stories are particularly sh—y on the worst days,” Noah said. “We’ve laughed together, we’ve cried together.”
Noah took over for Jon Stewart in 2015 after he started as a contributor the year prior.
Breitbart News took a shot at Noah for his rating struggles, saying “When Jon Stewart left the Daily Show in 2015, he averaged 1.3 million viewers per night. After seven years of humiliating failure, Stewart’s hand-picked replacement, some guy named Trevor Noah, is slinking off with an average viewership as of last week of 363,000 viewers.”
