Realistically, the Dems can afford to lose both chambers, IF THE REPUGS PULL THE SAME STUPID/CORRUPT stuff they historically do when they have advantage.

Dems will be counting on that. And so will the numerous traitorous/corrupt RINOs!

2024 will be here soon, and if the stagflation continues (and it almost certainly will) the Republican's will be framed to hold the bag. If the economy gets even worse - and I consider that as quite likely - then the Republicans will be set to take the blame in full.

The Republicans need to take the offensive and do something VERY different this time around, if they want to come into 2024 with even more momentum:

They need to DELIVER, EVEN THOUGH THEY WILL BE OPPOSED BY THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH ALL THE WAY. How are ANY good laws supposed to get passed, if the DemonRat White House declines them all? And, especially, if the RINOs are passive aggressive about things?

I think it can be managed, but it will require a whole different style of governance than the grafty "politics" the Republicans usually (actually, ALWAYS) display.

I don't want to rain on the parade. At least sanity has a chance - which it wouldn't if the Dems kept the Senate. But the chance will be squandered if the Republicans don't do something quite different from anything I've ever seen them do.

Newt Gingrich's "Contract with America" was the closest I've ever seen to a sincere, intelligent attempt to govern from the Congress up. And yet that substantially failed. Why? And how can Repubs do way better?

I'm hoping Trump will keep the troops focussed and the RINOs in line. As I've said repeatedly, the Paul/Jordan leadership duo sounds like an excellent idea. But I think Trump is still required, or I don't know that the American people will be prepared to continue through what could (and, realistically, SHOULD) be pretty hard times.

Can a person overdose on copium? There are many signs the Left sees the writing on the wall for Democrats in the upcoming midterms.

While it’s fun watching the emerging coping mechanisms, if we want to enjoy the ultra-hilarity, we need to get out and vote in November. Oh, the laughs we’ll have! We here at Twitchy will be right here to share the best with you.

Anyway, check out this one from John Sides. The copium is strong with this one.

John Sides (@johnmsides) ~ In advance of election night, I think it's useful to calibrate expectations to the fundamentals, not to polls or vibes.

So, a good calibration:

House: Dems lose ~40-45 seats
Senate: Dems lose 1-3 seats

Anything significantly less = Dem over-performance. Here's why.

Yep, they’re going to declare Democrat victory if the Democrats lose the House. LOL.

Twitter was just as amused as we were.

ConservaJoker (@ConservaJoker) ~ {Replying to @johnmsides} I get that @TheDemocrats want to make themselves feel better, I’m not sure leaning into “Yeah, Republicans blew us out, but not by quite as much as they could have” is going to provide much comfort.

Prof Hank Percy NYC (@nyc_prof) ~ {Replying to @johnmsides} Good sign if liberals are lowering expectations like this.

Yes, yes it is.

PaulStev (@PaulStev3) ~ {Replying to @johnmsides} Does this factor in burst water pipes and late night ballot drop offs?

LOL! You know you laughed.

More like Boregon (@Portlandummy) ~ {Replying to @johnmsides} I hope you're prepared to live under fascism, John.

We think this dude’s serious, but still – LOL!

Chicago Conservative (@ChicagoConserv5) ~ {Replying to @johnmsides} Isn’t it a little early to try and spin a butt-whipping into something positive? 🤣🤣🤣🤡🤡🤡

The real fun doesn’t start until you get into the hidden replies.

Brian (@berniehad48sec) ~ {Replying to @johnmsides} “When we lose we still win”!!! Brilliant.

Hammerslasher (@Hammerjack90) ~ {Replying to @johnmsides} Such is the state of political analysis on the Left.

Republicans lose one special election: "OMG, GOP IS DOOMED!!!"

Democrats lose 40 House seats and 3 Senate seats: "That’s not bad, ackshully ..."

Amazing how that works, isn’t it?

NevilleTheCat (@FearTheFloof) ~ {Replying to @johnmsides} Stage 3:

Sunny McSunnyface (@sunnyright) ~ {Replying to @johnmsides} We’re at the “Democrats losing fewer than 40 House seats is really a victory for them” stage of copium.

Adam Lawson (@cigarsandlegs) ~ {Replying to @johnmsides} “If republicans don’t have a historic night, Dems overperformed!”

Well, no more #RoeYourVote I guess.

Dems might be finding out that ‘you can’t kill your hypothetical future baby’ just doesn’t animate voters as much as record inflation.

Bonchie (@bonchieredstate) ~ {Replying to @johnmsides} Anything less than the largest House majority in 100 years is a Dem over performance? Are you drunk?

Jeff B. is *BOX OFFICE POISON* (@EsotericCD) ~ {Replying to @johnmsides} This is hugely impressive as an attempt to manufacture a 'win' scenario for Democrats given the current vibes. His bar for "Dems overperforming" is beyond what even the most optimistic polls are predicting Rs might do.

All the rest is just the dull anesthetic of copium.
