I don't think so.

A Tesla gets about 4 miles per kw/hr of electricity.

A gallon of gas is equal to 33.7 kw/hr of energy. If we had a perfect generator, 13.35 gallons of gas would take a Tesla 1,800 miles. Of course, generators aren't perfect. Pistonheads.com says we should estimate a gas generator as being 25% efficient. So our Tesla would initially need to carry 53.4 gallons of gas. And its effective mileage, instead of being in the ballpark of 150 mpg would instead be a quarter of that... about 35mpg, which is what a typical non-electric car can get these days.

With the initial fuel weight (335 lbs) and generator weight (50 lbs) added, the Tesla's mileage would fall still more... maybe down to 25 mpg or so. That's much better than the 8mpg highway that a Humvee gets. And the Tesla really could go 1,800 miles without a stop, which a Humvee couldn't. You'd just have to find a driver willing to sit behind the wheel for 30 hours. Count me out. I've done many stints of ten hours (VA to NH), stopping only for gas and restroom breaks, and found that to be about my limit.
