Bird migrations are amazing. Some time back, I saw a special on veeries... small thrushes... that cut their breeding seasons short in some years in order to migrate to South America. A study was performed as to WHY the birds would sometimes do that, and it was found that there was a strong correlation between early migration and bad hurricane seasons. Hurricanes would make migration difficult, you see.

But the veeries initiate their migration months before the hurricane season begins. That's remarkable. Nobody knows how they can tell.
