I really wish Trump would learn - first - to reign his tongue.
I don't know of anyone else who could have survived what Trump has. On the other hand, I think the road forward is not the same as the road he started on in 2016.... And Trump doesn't appear to be able to adapt to that.
About a week ago, heading into the midterms and being hopeful for that "red wave", I started watching "The Hunger Games" on Amazon Prime. That film series, especially the first segment, is really an excellent warning. Now I can actually see us going, rather easily, to that dismal future.
But there was a LESSON which was embedded repeatedly in the first film which Katniss had to learn: YOU NEED ALLIES...AND YOU NEED SPONSORS...AND, TO GET THOSE, ARROGANCE MUST BE ABANDONED. PEOPLE NEED TO LIKE YOU. It isn't nearly enough to be the best shot with a bow and arrow and to be "tough".
Trump's arrogance is his biggest weakness. DeSantis and Youngkin could be, and should be his close allies. His INABILITY to cultivate their allegiance is on wide display, now. I have NEVER "liked" Trump, although I appreciated his courage. If the only people who can like him are people who are willing to be flunkies, that is the "Ugly" route I previously posted an article about.
Trumps egomania has gone from being his core strength to his core weakness in garnering more support. "You can't get there from here" comes to mind as a good aphorism.
