The church has every right to call it a marriage. It is the government that doesn't. Federalizing marriage will end up violating the church's (and everyone's) Freedom of Association. it's just another step in forcing people to accept those freaks. Will the Federal government be forcing a church to perform a gay marriage?

Of course it will.

Re: “This is going to be very bad for the church and for private schools.”
Here's a case where I suspect I disagree with most, possibly all, of the board's members.

I believe the legal benefits - and drawbacks - of marriage should all be conferred to Americans willing to form a contract with another American, and the sex of the participants should play no role. I say this despite my opinion that couples who are of the same gender make lousy parents since their children will not have appropriate exposure to both a female mother and a male father. (But this is also the case in single-parent households.) Therefore, my only objection to the new law is its use of the word "marriage." I consider marriage to be, first and foremost, a religious institution. Government nosed its way in long ago, and religions should never have stood for that. Once government got involved, it was only going to be a matter of time before government took it over... a time which is now upon us.

At this point, I think religions that oppose same-sex marriage should discontinue the use of the word "married" and replace it with "religiously unified," or "blessedly united," or "Lutheran sanctioned," or whatever. But not "marriage" since that's now a thing that queers do.
