Wow. I was deprived of that.

I did get an incredible - by today's standards - chemistry set, though. I think it had at least 50 different chemicals, most of which you would probably be arrested for trying to buy today.;-/

Have you seen a recent vintage adolescent chemistry set?

They contain only a few things: water, salt, baking soda, a pair of scissors and an instruction book on how to change sex.

During a brief window in 1950-51, children could get the Gilbert U-238 Atomic Energy Lab—a kit allowing them to make nuclear reactions at home using ACTUAL RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL.

It was removed from shelves in 1951.
