Re: “One tidbit. I DID have a mild heart attack a few weeks prior to my going to see my Primary care and did not recognize it as such.”
Sorry to hear that. While one in five who've had a mild heart attack go on to have a second over the next five years, four out of five DON'T. You've just had your arteries closely examined and repaired, so I wouldn't stress about the chances of having another.

BUT, I'm disappointed to hear that you didn't take the symptoms you had seriously. (I hope everyone else reading this takes note of this!!!) Following my surgery, I tried to tell everyone here how very mild my chest pain had been. It was just a twinge, really, but one that lasted a minute or so and led me to stop walking whenever it happened. Some heart attacks are silent... no symptoms at all. But the problems you and I experienced were noticeable and we both should have had them checked sooner. I, fortunately, hadn't had a heart attack but my surgery should have been done earlier. By 2019, the aortic valve stenosis was "severe."

What's done is done. We both have mild heart damage (I assume you do) and it's not going to kill us.

I think the cardiologist who scared the crap out of you is an idiot or sadist. What possible benefit is there to "advising" a patient that a surgery he had in January should have killed him? It's not like you'd done anything wrong. Assuming you didn't ask him how you'd survived the surgery (in which case he was being forthright), the guy is a clown.

I'm glad you're doing so well now.

BTW, I just had my heart checked out last week. I'd complained to my regular cardiologist that I was feeling an ache similar to what I'd had before my surgery. He set me up for an echocardiogram which gave me a clean bill of health. He'd told me that the thinking regarding bicuspid aortic valves has changed over the years from "wait until the patient is noticing it" to "perform surgery BEFORE the patient experiences problems." Makes sense to me but I'm angry with the cardiologest I was seeing in Virginia. By the time surgery was done some (minor) damage had already occurred. My new doc thinks the occasional ache I'm reporting at this point is probably due to that. The heart itself, though, was given a clean bill of health. The "mild enlargement" described in 2019 hasn't changed. My ejection fraction is 65%. "Normal" is 50% to 75%, so I'm right where I should be. My heart is performing well... and, like yours, it's been examined about as closely as possible!

Thanks De. I am going to try to reduce my weight. I am a little over weight according to doctor's weight charts for average build males. I was born with a large skeletal frame, and an athletic build. So I weigh more because I am "denser" and in a large boned skeleton.

That being said, I still need to shed some excess flab.. o excuses here. At 180 pounds I am very average looking and actually somewhat thin... At 200 pounds I am pretty average looking without a gut. Always been like this and would like to get back to being close to my younger build.

So I need to lose some weight and am on a mission to do just that.. I appreciate your encouragement..

My father's father was 93 years old. My father was 91.

If his heart was not as bad as it was he would have lived longer. His pace maker finally stopped and he was not strong enough to have it replaced. There is nothing wrong with my heart other than I clogged a few arteries from over indulgence and lack of self control.

I will modify my eating and food choices and so I do not clog up my heart arteries with PLAQUE again plus I am on a statin daily to keep them cleaned..

One tidbit. I DID have a mild heart attack a few weeks prior to my going to see my Primary care and did not recognize it as such. The cardiologist recognized it right away and kinda chewed on me about not being more attentive. He was glad I went to see my doc.

Last tidbit. He also scared the crap out of me because he said I should have died on the operating table from the hip replacement last January. My heart was not in good enough shape to endure that so he does not know why I survived the hip replacement. I simply told him it was not myappointed time. so I am fortunate to be here walking in this world today..

Appreciate your input very much!
