Re: “So we are taking the same statin. Do they have you on a blood thinner also??”
Yes - for the rest of my life. Moreover, the blood thinner I'm on is warfarin/coumadin since I can't take Eliquis. (When you see an Eliquis commercial, you'll notice that there's always a written warning about not using it with mechanical heart valves.) Warfarin has to be closely monitored because it can easily make blood TOO thin. So I stab my finger and test the blood as directed by the hospital... at least every two weeks.

I'd read that Ivermectin interferes with warfarin, and wow, did it ever. During the short time I used it, my blood thinness fell from a measured "2.6" to "1.6" in about ten days. (An INR in the 2.0 - 3.0 range is what's wanted. A normal person has an INR of 1.0.) That was a huge drop in a short time, so they upped my warfarin. I stopped taking Ivermectin once I was over Covid and, whoosh! My INR rocketed up to 3.6 - the highest I've had since my surgery when they were intentionally making my blood very thin.

So, the day I recorded the 3.6, I was lugging a box of books up the stairs and banged my hand into the edge of the door. I scraped a little skin off my index finger's knuckle. It's no bigger around than a BB and didn't bleed. Not at first. A minute later - really, a full minute - a little blood started to show. A minute after that, it started bleed profusely and I applied pressure with toilet paper. 30 minutes later, it was still bleeding... a full drop every 30 seconds, I bet. I put gauze over it and taped that in place, but it bled through in about half an hour.

Would you believe that stupid little scrape bled for almost 24 hours?????

I've had many cuts and scratches in the last 3 years, but never when my INR was elevated. I really thought the blood thinner was no big deal. But, apparently when the INR goes above 3, it matters a lot.

If you're on Eliquis, there's no need to measure your INR. You'll probably also only be on a blood thinner for a few months. Then they'll take you off of it. They just want to lower your chance of clots. Remember my comment that your risk of thrombosis and embolism is elevated for 90 days? They'll likely only want your blood thinned for a little beyond that... 6-months, tops, unless they find that you have a clot. (Pay particular attention to your legs. If they swell, tingle or change color, don't play around. See a doctor.)

I am on the sameone as you. I discontinued the Lipitor because it created problems for me and the side effects were in full swing. Once stopped taking that and put on Rosuvastatin that all went away.

At least the cardiologist is listening to me.

So we are taking the same statin.Do they have you on a blood thinner also?? I was but I needed to stop because I have to have injections into my right knee to put some gel for cushioning inside. I have one more injection to go next week. I will ask the doc if its really necessary to be a blood thinner. I don;t want to be on any more meds than absolutely necessary.. Before all this I wasn;t on ANY.. So I am not a fan of taking lots of pills unless I really need to...
