Those of you who have read a fair amount of science fiction are probably aware that, per Vernor Vinge and others, The Singularity was supposed to happen around this time: around 2020-2050, as I recall. Certainly, Musk is aware of this paradigm. I'm guessing he is trying to manage and, skillfully, hasten it.

The news this morning is that Open-AI, an organization co-founded and heavily supported by Musk as an alternative to Google/CCP's nightmare dystopic AI squashing humanity like a bug, has just released http://gpt3demo.com. This is a "chatbot" which writes and "thinks" probably better than you do, at least within its domain.

If you are not familiar with The Singularity, as a concept, you might want to read up on it:

PRO http://futurism.com/kurzweil-claims-that-the-singularity-will-happen-by-2045
CON http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2020/12/the_singularity_what_it_is_and_why_it_matters_more_than_anything_else.html

The basic idea is that change, largely driven by AI breakthroughs in computing power, starts changing things so fast that almost day to day, and certainly year to year, the thresholds of "what is real" and, especially, what is possible become effectively impossible to control. If you need an analogy, think of the physics of a black hole.

Usually, these days, I am a bit depressed and apprehensive about the future. As fast as tech capabilities grow the OPPRESSORS around the world AKA "Statists"/Control-freaks AKA Government "workers", utilize it to strip individual liberties and seize more control for themselves. So far they appear to be winning the war for the future.

The technology acceleration is likely to be either their greatest ally or their greatest enemy.

Ultimately, “Government” and “Military” is a STUPID, paleolithic, anti-creativity force/concept. It derives from our tribal origins and the idea of humans as a pack (socialism/communism) animal—where there is a supreme ruler and the rest of the pack is as expendable as worker bees & drones in a beehive.

For the good of mankind, we should all be considering how to rise above this and skillfully eliminate government, and those who want to grow it, from humanity. Up until now that has not been possible, because we have needed either slaves or "employees" for basic upkeep and food production. But we are on the cusp of possible positive developments if things (particularly the energy problem, but also overpopulation/corporatism) can be skillfully managed through transition. Hopefully, on the other side, there is something both more liberating and humanitarian.

Alternatively, we are on the cusp of slavery and genocide on a level pretty near impossible to contemplate as Our Masters work toward something like The Hunger Games meets Brave New World to keep us subjugated.

Please notice I stressed "skillfully". I am not talking about chaos but, rather, planned obsolescence. But that I mean, we don't need government, nor ANY soldiers nor government sinecures because things are governed at a much more local, human level.

Like it or not, one thing or the other, a future either very dark or - potentially - very bright is upon us. Fighting that seems impossible. And, indeed, we don't need to fight it if we can just manage to adapt to something almost impossible to imagine and, therefore, quite scary: liberty loving humans consciously evolving towards something both more heart felt and vastly "smarter".

The post Singularity future likely doesn't have any place for people doing physical labor: NO place for "soliders" nor "desk jobs" nor "housekeepers" nor "construction workers" nor anything which doesn't require much more heart and mind, and especially imagination, than a machine. And the machines are about to get a lot more sophisticated and flexible and even interactive.

Re: “Musk went from Demo Darling to Bete Noir with astounding speed. Was it moving CA to TX that made the difference, or was it his enormous surge in wealth as Tesla exploded (in sales)? Or something else?”
Trump went through this change himself. Remember, for most of the time that he was in New York, he seemed quite liberal. He made donations to Democrats. He even proposed Single Payer Healthcare in the early 2000s.

When he was asked about it a few years ago, he said (and I am paraphrasing) "As a businessman, you have to work with the politicians or you fail. I was in New York City. I did and said what I needed to say in order for my businesses to succeed." Something like that.

Why should it be different for Musk? As a businessman, he HAD to play along. Once he'd achieved phenomenal success, there was less reason to cooperate with politicians who, in the long run, are intent on destroying everything that is good and decent - including, you can be sure, Musk's businesses.
