More than nine years ago we spotted and bought an innocent box of crackers named "Soylent Green Crackers." (We know it was at least nine years ago since the contents expired in 2013.) They are a gag item, of course, named after the movie "Soylent Green" in which Charlton Heston discovers that an overpopulated and polluted world is no longer able to grow food, and the population is being fed something called "Soylent Green" - which, unbeknownst to everyone, turns out to be made from people.

I've held on to the crackers all this time. Today, though, as I was boxing CDs and DVDs to take to the barn, I decided to throw the Soylent Green crackers in as well. The box is all I wanted... the crackers are obviously rancid and I don't want the box to attract mice. Besides, there's no space for the whole box. So I carefully opened it, threw out the sealed bag of crackers, and now it'll fit.

Along the way, I chanced to wonder if the crackers are still being made. My wife was doubtful. She thought we got them from a long-gone website. I thought it unlikely that they were made by the distributor and checked the package. Plain as day, it says it's made by "The Parallax Corporation, San Francisco CA 94107." There's also a website, www.buysoylentgreen.com .

I tried it and... heh... was a little surprised by what came up. But it kinda figures, it being a San Francisco company that also says on the box, "100% of the electricity used to manufacture these crackers and this carton came from green power sources." Damned pervert liberals.

You can try it yourself, but here's what the website redirected to:
