Sorry De.
I have Linux . . . But most of the time I run under Windoze 7. Once a week I fire up an XP based machine. Once or twice a month I fire up the Linux box to go to Vanguard and my bank.

As far as getting a microphone attached to it . . . I'd REALLY have to feel the need.

On the bright side. I took my Woman to 'Ollies' so she could go shopping. And I was searching for something to entertain the three year old monster and me. I found 'Harold and his Purple Crayon' - in a boxed set. Score!

And I also found a book titled 'Code This Game'. "Make Your Own Game Using Python". And, "Attack of the Vampire Pizzas". So I bought it. Found I needed something called 'pygame' - which was on the Linux box. (The Linux box is not in a comfortable place to work . . . ) So, following the instructions in the book I was able to install pygame on the Windoze 7 box. I'm about half way through it . . . I have animated pizzas walking across the screen and I have a 'detector' so I can 'trap' the vampire pizzas. I think I want to see what happens if I 'Kill' the pizza.

The program does 'object oriented programming' (Classes and sub-classes), animation, and the Event Loop. As well as python.

I'm having a good time with it.

Zim.

Re: “Is there a 'speech to text' program that runs under Linux?”
There aren't even many good packages for Windows. But I *am* getting the following answer from google: "Nuance Dragon is not available for Linux but there are plenty of alternatives that run on Linux with similar functionality. The best Linux alternative is Dictanote, which is free."

There's more to it than just voice recognition, though. After all, Windows has voice recognition built in... if that's all I wanted. But Dragon's voice recognition is quite good, and it lets me invent my own words and have lengthy templates as their "spelling." The one I'm using in this response to you, for instance, is about half of a page long. The ability to do that is important to me and is the reason I bought Dragon Professional instead of the less expensive Dragon Home Edition. Mere voice recognition wouldn't have done what I wanted.

You use linux. How about installing Dictanote and giving us a review? If you do, be sure to comment on whether it lets you create templates like what I described.
