The book portion of my database's data entry is approaching completion. One thing that's really surprised me is its significant omissions - books I can see are absent even though I know I own them. This is because I only went through boxes that are 100% media. I've got a tremendous number of mixed content boxes, many of them containing a few books. Over the years and the many moves, I often used books as packing material to fill gaps or even to separate fragile items. The contents of those boxes are in my inventory spreadsheet... but the book detail is usually along the lines of "and 4 paperbacks."

A few of the database's current stats:

• 14,292 entries.
• 340 locations - which, mostly, are numbered and tracked boxes stored at the barn
• 4,809 "originators" - authors, essentially. It represents authors, editors, publishers, composers, bands, directors, singers, compilers, artists, manufacturers and actors
• 2,768 Magazines
• 2,208 Hardback Books
• 7,343 pulp-sized paperbacks
• 1,010 oversized paperbacks
• 442 coffee table book-sized books
• 147 musical scores and books of music
• 158 Manuals, Brochures and Guides
• 32 CDs (I own many more)
• 62 DVDs (I own many more)
• 66 Spiralbound
• 6,603 science fiction
• 1,862 fantasy (keeping in mind that when it's a mix of both, I call it science fiction)
• 1,009 suspense/horror/thriller
• 406 mysteries
• 252 cooking / bartending
• 165 technical books
• 129 nature / science books
• 152 philosophy / politics / religion books
• 297 music (which isn't just vinyl and cds but also books and scores)
• 51 poetry books
• 2,734 volumes of articles, essays & stories

There's more - newspapers, X-box games, Reference books, etc. But the stats I provided cover the biggest groupings.

I'm in the process of entering major awards my books received or were nominated for. So far, those include Hugo Awards, Nebula Awards, Locus Awards, John W. Campbell Memorial Awards, Newbery Medals, National Book Awards, Pulitzer Prizes, Edgar Awards and World Fantasy Awards. Still to go: British Science Fiction awards, Hans Christian Andersen awards, Philip K. Dick awards, ALA Notable Children`s books, School Library Journal Best Books, Regina Medal awards, Boston Globe Horn Book Honor books, Booklist Editor's choice and Lewis Carroll Shelf Awards.

I'll probably add a few more before I'm done including Oscars, Tonys, Grammys and Emmies, but so far I don't have much in the way of movies, musicals, music or tv shows in the database. I do have some, but the bulk is a job for another day.

How about Nobel prizes? No. Nobel Prizes for Literature are won by artists for bodies of work, not for specific pieces.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months
