Re: “So I am impressed with your efforts to organize and know what you have accumulated.. That's impressive...”
I didn't have too much choice. Before I can even decide what to get rid of, I need to know what I own, its condition, its role as part of a larger set. I want to know if it's something I've read, its genre, its size (since that affects the spacing of bookshelves to erect), etc.

At a minimum, I intend to have the pulp SF and fantasy books displayed. Perhaps the suspense/horror/thriller novels too. If I do that, I'll be displaying 5,735 books... less a few duplicates.

I measured 3,378 of the pulp paperbacks and found that on average they're .78 inches wide. (Yeah, they're thin, but do you remember what paperbacks used to look like in the 1950s and 1960s?) So I'll need 4,473 inches of shelving, plus another 10% for expansion of the collection and error, so 4,920 inches. The average pulp paperback is 7 inches tall. I'd better allow for an 8 inch book. Separating the shelves by 9 inches with the first shelf on the floor means that ten shelves of 41 feet will do the trick.

It's a good thing I have an uninterrupted basement wall that should be long enough, eh?.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

has anybody ever suggested you could possibly have the traits of a HOARDER? lol!!!!While my own library constitutes approximately 1500 Books, most of which are hard backed, and are all on Library style book cases.

There are a few paperbacks , less than 75 of that that total. Mine are all mostly History, a couple of shelves of CLassic American novels, and of course lots of Theological books.. The History and Theology books are about even in numbers.

BUT

NOTHING in sheer volume as the description of what you just posted. My collection is dwarfed by yours....
I also am not ambitious enough to catalogue all the books on media. I don't have time and secondly, I simply am not ambitious enough to do that.. So I am impressed with your efforts to organize and know what you have accumulated.. That's impressive...
