that's an interesting perspective De. I had not given it much thought before but will "simmer" on this for awhile..

I had always considered DNA to simply be a unique identifier to each individual.

Unfortunately you bring up the corrupt FBI and some law enforcement agencies that are basically rogue and used to go after everyday citizens when they don;t knuckle under to the wannabe dictator in charge.. But, it is also useful in identifying correctly PERPS that commit heinous crimes against other people which I believe is a good thing..

It appears to have a duality as to the nature of how it could be used in differing scenarios ...

CTJ:

Re: “The CEO of 23andMe was married to the co-founder of Google. Her sister is the CEO of YouTube.”
I wasn't familiar with 23andme.com, but AncestryDNA.com is performing the same service. Ancestry.com, which I think is the biggest of the Genealogy sites, was doing it too. I don't know if it still does.

From my perspective, it's very disturbing. Another member of my family can submit DNA results that could result in my son, or my son's son, or my son's son's son - being convicted. Some will doubtless argue that if someone is a criminal, he SHOULD get caught! I don't agree with that at all. Some of today's laws are anti-freedom and even unAmerican. I support passive resistance to those laws, including breaking the ones that are frivolous or unethical.

I expect many of tomorrow's laws to be worse than today's. And DNA evidence doesn't necessarily PROVE guilt. It is sometimes just ADDITIONAL evidence that can be used in a trial, evidence that might tip a jury's verdict in favor of conviction without actually PROVING anything. (If ten people are in a room where a crime occurs and my son is shown by DNA to be among them, that doesn't make him guilty. But it might bolster an otherwise weak case against him.)

Worst of all, if America ever empowers an "Adolf Hitler," this data and technology will make it much easier for him to hunt down groups he doesn't like. Want to exterminate the Jews? "Here's a list of every Jew in the country."

I think it sucks. Our DNA should be protected at least as well as the contents of our homes.
