The AMX-10RC was developed during the late 1970s. It entered service with the French Army in 1979. The French Army obtained a total of 284 of these vehicles. It was one of the first, if not the first production fire support vehicle, armed with a powerful 105 mm gun. The AMX-10RC is no longer produced. Between 2005 and 2010 a total of 256 of these armored vehicles were upgraded to the AMX-10RCR standard in order to keep them in operational service. In the near future these are due to be replaced by a new Jaguar armored reconnaissance and combat vehicle. French Army has a requirement for up to 250 new machines, that will replace in French Army service the AMX-10RCs, as well as some other armored vehicles. Deliveries of the Jaguar were scheduled to begin in 2020. The AMX-10RC has been exported to Morocco and Qatar. This tank destroyer has seen action during numerous military conflicts. It seems that in 2022 France delivered a couple of non-modernizes AMX-10RC vehicles to Ukraine in order to defend against the Russian invasion.
The AMX-10RC was originally developed for reconnaissance and fire support. This light wheeled armored vehicle is highly mobile. It is fitted with a powerful gun and is capable of fire support and rapid intervention. At the time of its introduction it was considered a tank destroyer. However this ageing vehicle is no longer effective against modern main battle tanks. Still though it can effectively engage armored vehicles, buildings, field fortifications and other targets.
Hull and turret are of welded aluminum armor construction. Vehicle withstands hits from medium-caliber weapons and artillery shell splinters. The French Army AMX-10RC vehicles are fitted with NBC protection systems.
The AMX-10RC is armed with a GIAT F2 105 mm rifled gun. At the time of its introduction fire control system of this vehicle was considered as modern. It has a high first-round-hit rate. Also this vehicle can open fire just after 10 seconds when the target is spotted. However it has a significant drawback, as the main gun is not stabilized and vehicle can't fire accurately on the move. The AMX-10RC fires APFSDS, HE, HEAT and smoke rounds. Its range of effective fire is over 2 000 m. Even today the AMX-10RC remains a formidable fire support vehicle.
Secondary armament consists of a single coaxial 7.62 mm machine gun.
Vehicle is operated by a crew of four, including commander, gunner, loader and driver.
This fire support vehicle is based on a purpose-designed 6x6 wheeled chassis. It uses a number of automotive components of the AMX-10P infantry fighting vehicle. The AMX-10RC is powered by a Baudouin GF-11SX diesel engine, developing 280 horsepower. Vehicle has a hydropneumatic suspension with adjustable ground clearance. The ground clearance can be adjusted from 0.2 to 0.6 m. Furthermore the vehicle can "sit", "stand", "kneel" or "lean" in any direction. The AMX-10RC is also fitted with a central tyre pressure system, which improves mobility over difficult terrain such as sand, mud and snow. Vehicle can continue to move when one or two tyres are totally destroyed. The AMX-10RC is fully amphibious without preparation. On water it is propelled by two waterjets.

So,
These armored vehicles are, basically, light, wheeled, tanks. Outdated that the French are working on replacing. Not much use against modern tanks . . . But then Russia has already lost most of its tanks in Ukraine . . . Just send the Ukrainians a few hundred more Jevelin anti-tank missiles and no problem.
Zim.
Mad Poet Strikes Again.
