Report: Cop Who Shot Ashli Babbitt Lived Large At VIP Military Suite For Months After Public ID

Liam Edgar January 8, 2023

Despite liberals’ rhetoric, the one truth about the violence at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, is that the only person killed in the riot was a supporter of former President Donald Trump, Ashli Babbitt.

And now, thanks to the conservative group Judicial Watch, we’ve learned that the person who fatally shot Babbitt, Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd, was allowed to hole up for months in a VIP suite at a Washington-area military base at taxpayer expense following Babbitt’s death.

Judicial Watch reported on Friday, two years after Babbitt’s death, that it obtained details of Byrd’s lodgings from the U.S. Air Force through a public records request.

“The documents show that Lieutenant Byrd and a pet stayed in a ‘Distinguished Visitor Suite’ at the ‘Presidential Inn’ (part of Air Force Inns) under a ‘Capitol Police Presidential Inn Reservation’ for the period July 8, 2021, through January 28, 2022,” Judicial Watch’s report noted. There was no description of his pet.

The inn is part of Joint Base Andrews in suburban Maryland.

A Joint Base Andrews representative told Judicial Watch that such accommodations are typically reserved for military officers with the rank of general or admiral.

Email traffic between the hotel staff and the USCP “appears to confirm that the Capitol Police were covering the cost of Byrd’s stay at the Presidential Inn.”

Judicial Watch noted that doing so cost taxpayers “thousands” of dollars.

It’s not clear from Judicial Watch’s post who sent Byrd to Joint Base Andrews or why.

Revisiting the original incident, Judicial Watch noted that federal prosecutors declined to go after Byrd on murder charges.

That happened in April 2021.

Meanwhile, Byrd’s identity was not known for another four months until he agreed to an interview with NBC News. Judicial Watch’s report indicates he remained at Joint Base Andrews for an additional five months after going public.

The group also recalled that Babbitt was unarmed, Byrd did not give her any warning or commands, and he refused, at least initially, to create a report about the shooting or cooperate with investigators.
