It is my sense that you guys are all about coming up with reasons why we can't do this. I don't agree. I expect my government to know who its legal residents are and to have a means of identifying them. If that means that it needs to maintain a fingerprint database that includes everyone, then I guess that's what it means. We have a serious problem and it needs to be solved.

I understand the privacy concerns that will make many unwilling to fork over their fingerprints. A good compromise, I think, would be that the database only holds two fingerprints -- everyone's thumbprints, for instance . Or palm prints.
