I think your sense is wrong if you are saying we are saying it can't be done. We are saying the government has no will to do anything of the sort. So, those who follow the law are actually kind of stupid (includes me, as I follow the law...probably way too much).

But why don't you turn it on the "illegal aliens" who are, under our laws, CRIMINALS? And treat all government "workers" who violate the law, and especially the Constitution, as CRIMINALS.

Very easy to clean things up. But not so long as the CRIMINALS are rewarded and normal citizens are punished.

This isn't an employer centered problem. Employers are drowning in regulations and "compliance" costs.

I don't agree. I expect my government to know who its legal residents are and to have a means of identifying them. If that means that it needs to maintain a fingerprint database that includes everyone, then I guess that's what it means. We have a serious problem and it needs to be solved.

I understand the privacy concerns that will make many unwilling to fork over their fingerprints. A good compromise, I think, would be that the database only holds two fingerprints -- everyone's thumbprints, for instance . Or palm prints.
