Good afternoon Fiz!
Lots of interesting concerns and the same ones I thought when I was looking at this same thing.
I could not have received better medical care the past several years with my medicare plan plan I have.
what you need is a excellent insurance broker that owns his own agency and knows ALL the medicare plans that are for your locale.
My cost for the entire time I was dealing with my heart condition at the hospital was zero..... That included ten days of room and board, two surgeries, all the doctors and meds.
WHY zero? Most plans you will look at all have a co-pay for various things including the room if you are admitted to the hospital. You usually pay the first 5 days at approximately $385/day. Day six and past is covered 100 percent. my agency and friend who has handled my wife and my medicare plans as well as our home and automobile coverages told us about supplemtns that weere available with some different insurance medicare plans available in greater cincinnati area..
We chose to use Aetna which is owned by CVS drugs.
They also own a few life insurance companies also and so I pay for a supplement thru that company that would cover additional out of pocket costs I may incur.
In this last case, I had to pay the first five days of my co-pay for the hospital room. That was about $1500.
I turned this into the supplemental insurer and am waiting for the check to be delivered to me.. So my room cost me nothing while I was hospitalized for ten days.
Different areas have different plans geographically so youwill want to see side by side comparisons of the coverages, and do any of them have available additional coverages you could add.
IF the BLUES are available in your area look at them, as well as Humana, Aetna, and United Health care.
Many have no monthly cost unless like me you add some supplemental coverages..
Some companies give you a quarterly benefit of going to get items that are supplemnental like vitamins, first aid supplies, pain killers like aspirin, tylenol, aleve, etc. Cough syrups, and other things. Thermometers, blood pressure checkers and electronic thermometers. Its pretty nice...
Pretty much most of what CVS sells in this arena is available on the supplemental free to you things..
I found that United Health Care had multiple plans that cost money and were not any better than my free Aetna coverage..
I see the TOP Orthopedic group in all of southwest Ohio and northern Kentucky and they have operated on me twice now, and taken very good care of me..
They treat me no different today than they did before I went on one of these plans..
I was quite surprised at how good the coverage could be .
There is uite a variety of plans to look at but honestly several of them are all fairly much equal to one another and the doctor networks are identical to private coverages.
So that has been my experience to date and I pay ZERO except for the supplemental stuff my wife carries and the supplemental coverage I carry. for both of us that is less than $100 per month.. It is peace of mind knowing that 100 percent of whatever kind of medical bill I rack up will be covered at 100 percent..
