...the Veterans Administration is government healthcare. It's the worst in the country.

Yeah, this is truly sad. What abject morons like clo, who stupidly believe the government-run healthcare systems of Great Britain, Canada, and even hellholes like Cuba are SOOOOOO wonderful, do not understand is that "free healthcare" is: (1) NOT "free" - their taxes are much higher because of it, and (2) sketchy at best - more likely nonexistent. People with money in those countries pay for private doctors.

Back in the dark ages, when I was playing high school football, my left knee was all but destroyed by a hit from the side when it was locked out straight - snapped every tendon but the ones in the back. I learned that if you do not repair those tendons within a relatively short period of time, they start to wither away. Fortunately, I was born in the USA and received immediate, highly professional medical care to put Humpty Dumpty back together again.

When I was in my thirties, I heard that a friend-of-a-friend who lived in Canada had a son who similarly blew out his knee playing hockey. The dad took his son to the Canadian hospital to have the knee repaired, but he was told that, in March, that hospital had already performed their allotment of knee surgeries for the calendar year and the boy would have to wait 9 months. In 9 months, the boy's knee would have been mush. Fortunately, the dad had money. He put his son in the car, drove him down to the United States, and had his son's knee put back together a few days later in a U.S. hospital.
