I don't know what you been drinking . . . But Capitalist Principles tempered with anti-trust laws and worker protection laws have provided America with the greatest standard of living in history.
Recently America has been 'experimenting with' socialism and our standard of living is dropping, things cost much more than they ought (like healthcare and college educations), and we have shortages.
As the article pointed out - rent control tends to reduce the quantity and quality of housing.
