Re: “How come they didn't just use a gun on it unless they actually wanted it totally destroyed? ”
I raised exactly the same question with my wife about an hour ago.

I'm also wondering why a simple weather balloon that posed no threat while it was over our country suddenly had to be shot down when it got over the water.

And WAS it shot down? Or is that just what we're being told? It's kinda hard to know when it happened a hundred miles or so off shore ... and we've all gotten so used to being lied to.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

...and BTW: Cost of Sidewinder missile US$603,817 (AIM-9X Blk II FY15). How come they didn't just use a gun on it unless they actually wanted it totally destroyed? Now the evidence (if there is any) as to what the chinese were up to is scattered over 40 square miles of ocean bottom.
