Re: “Unless one REALLY has to have it . . . I'd say go to Open Office.”
I will start shopping for two decent and identical Windows 10 or 11 laptops. I'll install them with everything they need, then take them off the internet permanently.

With all the work I put into that book database, I can't afford to have Microsoft ruin it.

Office Update Scans the User’s PC, Only to Search Outmoded Office Versions

https://www.techgenyz.com/2023/02/07/office-update-outmoded-office-versions/

Microsoft, a multinational technology company based in the United States, did not disclose that the company would cast up Office installations with the latest update, which caused controversy among users.

To mend things down to the valley, the company trying to put things out of the way to lead serenely. Microsoft went deep into the narrow sea with an update published under the Identifier KB5021751, the company also declared a scan of the windows systems.

Microsoft vividly explains the scan aims to locate outdated Office versions. With the booming resulting details, Microsoft will try to take a steer to dissect the wording that isn’t meant for users. If the office erstwhile version is bygone then it can be possibly taken back to switch.

Article does continue . . . .

The word salad from this article is mind boggling.

But I can only think of two reasons for this :

1.) Microsoft wants to know how many people are still running old Office(s) . . .

2.) Microsoft wants to find people running un-registered (pirate) Office.

Unless one REALLY has to have it . . . I'd say go to Open Office.
