When we return from outside the United States we use CBP programs to check in remotely. Trusted Traveller and ROAM. You sign up to be a Trusted Traveller, then use the Roam app to check in skipping having to show up in person at Customs.
A new requirement now is that you need to be vaccinated to use the ROAM app. If you’re not you’ll need to show up in person. Makes no sense at all. Except as a way for the government to punish you for not being vaccinated.
BTW The last two times we use these apps they failed. Tried online and failed, called them and they told us they didn’t like the pictures of our passports we sent them. (Even though we were accepted when we applied into the trusted Traveller program and had received ID numbers from them). They told us we needed to leave the country. I said oh,Ok. Hung up the phone, called them back an hour later, talked to a different guy. He said just send them new photos and everything would be OK.
Last year when we came back we again couldn’t do it online. Couldn’t find our account to login. Called them on the phone and they said they had no record of us being members of either program. They had lost all of our info. So we had to start over again from zero with the Trusted Traveller application etc. took another day to get it all done.
