I can look at every single significant war since the Revolutionary War and see how it has created a "crisis" which required a suspension, bending, or absolute breaking of the rights enshirned in the Constitution.
If you are honest and have any sort of education at all, you can see it for yourself:
World War I
Word War II
Vietnam War
Cold War
War on Drugs
War on "Terror"
With every one of these, and in many cases leading up to the war (to facilitate the coming war), there was a massive attack on civil liberties... on our rights. And if the rights come back to some extent in the aftermath of the war, they are always in diminished form, with precedent set for the next attack.
