Hey Ribit, It is still on my list of things to do before I die to formally study argumentation.

I am vaguely aware of the term "straw man" as a type of false (non-logical) rebuttal.

But, honestly, I wasn't trying to make it a straw man argument. I was noting that all the major wars I could think of PERMANENTLY COST freedom. How much freedom are you willing to part with PERMANENTLY in order to "defend" the US government? (because let's not conflate the government with the Constitution and Bill of Rights, the geography, nor the citizenry. It seems to me THAT WOULD be a massive, massive, massive straw man argument?).

And why was my comment a "straw man" argument... I seriously would like some framing for that?

...straw man. Changing the argument is not the same as winning the argument.

...besides I didn't ask what wars were worth fighting, my question is what would he fight for. Family? Home? Job? 401k? Next door neighbor? What???
