...I would think that Ukraine is fighting for their country. Perhaps fighting for their form of govt or at least against whatever putin is proposing.

...the civil war was fought at least partially over slavery and I believe that most anyone could see that slavery is evil and should not be tolerated. Slavery would have come to an end sooner or later anyway which is a satisfactory conclusion for those who are not slaves.

...I am not sure which of the remaining wars were justified because I do not know all the reasons for em. There are always reasons they don't tell us about. I think we should have let Vietnam alone, but once we were in it we should have fought it to win it.

...Korea? I think the folks in S Korea are better off than they would be if we had let the N. Koreans snowball em.

...WWI? I don't know enough about European Royalty to understand why the slaying of Ferdinand was justification. To quote a great American Frank Drebin of POlice Squad,

"No matter how silly the idea of having a queen might be to us, as Americans we must be gracious and considerate hosts."

Thanks! BTW, after my original post I went back, saw you were actually responding to Decomp (and I think you have a point there; he did change the question).

And then, your point about straw man arguments got me thinking.

Am I correct that it would be a straw man argument if the topic is "what wars should we fight for our country" when the reality is that nearly all the wars are not fought for the "country" at all…but primarily,if not entirely, for the government…and Fascists who work hand in hand with the government?

FWIW, I am not being flip here. I just realized that the government (the mass of people who have decided to work IN government for their own selfish reasons) are absolutely NOT the Constitution (the only thing I consciously swore allegiance to).

The Fascists and Government DRONES (including the people who joined the military as a “job”) are commonly conflated with America, which is conflated with the Constitution (social contract), with the geography, and with the population. Who benefits from that completely illogical conflation? And why should any of us fight for them?

I personally favor EVERYONE who works for the government dying FIRST, no excuses and no substitutions. That would separate the selfish from the selfless damn quickly! It would probably, also, clean up the gene pool. ;->
